Unitree H2 EDU, full-size humanoid

Unitree H2 in the UK: Air, H2, H2-D, H2 Plus and what the G1 papers say

In brief: the H2 is Unitree's human-scale humanoid (1820 mm, about 70 kg, 31 degrees of freedom according to Unitree). The range includes the H2 Air, H2 EDU, H2-D and H2 Plus. Open research (teleoperation, power modelling, GR00T, motion tracking) is still concentrated on the G1: we use it as a base to size the stack and risks of a full-size H2 proof of concept.

Unitree H2 is not "a taller G1". It changes the relationship with the environment: human height, up to 360 N·m torque at the leg joints, human-robot interaction (HRI) and scenarios where a 132 cm robot is not enough. All versions, with specs and prices, are on the H2 range page.

What a buyer learns from the G1 literature

The 2025–2026 preprints on Unitree humanoids are mostly about the G1. That is not a limitation: the lessons on energy, teleoperation and foundation models carry over to how you design an H2 proof of concept.

1. Energy and motion planning

Deniz et al. (arXiv:2606.15915) identify an electrical power model on the G1's 7-DoF arm with R² ≈ 0.93–0.96. Practical takeaway: if your H2 use case involves repeated manipulation, budget for thermal/battery management, not just brochure endurance figures.

2. Whole-body teleoperation

Durrani & Khan (arXiv:2605.12347) show IMU → G1 teleoperation with a sim2sim/sim2real pipeline in MuJoCo. For the H2, the same discipline (kinematic retargeting, latency, safety harness) remains the starting point for any HRI demo.

3. Foundation models and cross-embodiment

Park et al. (arXiv:2512.01358) fine-tune foundation policies on GR1 and G1 with contact/depth modalities, lifting success rate from ~48% to ~94% on a pick task. This is the context in which the H2 Plus + Isaac GR00T roadmap makes sense: not out-of-the-box magic, but a platform for post-training on your own data.

NVIDIA documentation: Isaac GR00T. According to the NVIDIA announcement of 1 June 2026, the GR00T platform will also support the G1.

4. Generalist motion tracking

Amadio & Hoffman (arXiv:2607.19903) empirically study what matters in whole-body motion tracking on the G1 (YAHMP). Useful for anyone evaluating the H2 for HRI/entertainment research: many failures are not hardware, they are command/action representation choices.

5. Language-guided navigation

Action Agent (arXiv:2605.01477) combines video generation and velocity commands: on the real G1, in unseen indoor environments, it reaches 64.7% completed tasks. Signal: natural-language instruction POCs require a heavy stack and clear acceptance criteria.

H2 Plus and Isaac GR00T: realistic expectations

The H2 Plus is the Isaac GR00T reference version announced by Unitree and NVIDIA on 1 June 2026: H2 body, NVIDIA Jetson AGX Thor T5000 computing and two five-finger Sharpa Wave tactile hands. NVIDIA indicates sales through Unitree from late 2026 (NVIDIA announcement). With Abra it is on request: availability and lead times are confirmed in the quote. The GR00T results published today are typically on the G1 / other embodiments after fine-tuning. In an Abra quote we always separate: (a) hardware platform; (b) dataset and post-training; (c) safety and cell, three distinct cost items.

How to start an H2 proof of concept with Abra

  1. Define whether you need full-size locomotion or only manipulation (in that case also consider G1-D / H2-D)
  2. Align the software stack (ROS 2, teleoperation, possible GR00T) with the lab, see ROS2 Unitree
  3. Set metrics inspired by the papers: task success rate, average power, teleoperation latency, push recovery
  4. Request a quote on the H2 hub

Safety and regulations

With about 70 kg and 360 N·m at the legs, an H2 fall is a serious risk. Before use you need a risk assessment, a frame or harness for the first tests and a dedicated area. From 20 January 2027 the reference for machinery is Regulation (EU) 2023/1230: see the guide Unitree robots and the Machinery Regulation.
