Unitree Go2 Pro, quadruped with 4D LiDAR

Quadrupeds · Unitree · Updated 9 Oct 2026

Go2 vs Go2 Pro: which quadruped do you actually need

In short: Go2 Air, Go2 Pro and Go2 EDU share the same body (about 15 kg) and the same 4D LiDAR. The Pro adds 4G with GPS, voice functions, tracking modes and more speed. Only the EDU allows secondary development (SDK and ROS 2), has a 15000 mAh battery and foot force sensors. Prices excluding VAT: Air from €2,178, Pro from €3,981, EDU from €8,804.

The question "Go2 or Go2 Pro?" usually hides another question: do I need to write code on the robot, or is using it with the app and remote enough? If the answer is "code", neither the Air nor the Pro is suitable: you need the Go2 EDU. If instead the robot will be driven, demonstrated or used for inspections with the app, the choice is between Air and Pro and comes down mainly to connectivity, speed and warranty.

The data below comes from the official Unitree Go2 page. Prices are from the Abra Robotics Go2 price list, in euros excluding VAT; shipping and insurance are not included and are quoted in the offer.

What they have in common

The three versions share the same chassis: about 15 kg with battery, 70 × 31 × 40 cm standing, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. All of them carry the 4D LiDAR L2 with a 360° × 96° hemispherical field of view and a minimum detection distance of 0.05 m, plus a wide-angle HD camera and obstacle detection and avoidance. The app is the same too: real-time video streaming and control from a smartphone.

In practice, on the ground the Air and Pro are driven in the same way. The differences are in how fast and how long the robot runs, what it can do on its own and how much you can get your hands on at software level.

Go2 Air: when it is enough

The Go2 Air is the entry-level version, from €2,178 excluding VAT. It makes sense for events, trade shows, showrooms, basic teaching and for anyone who wants to understand how a quadruped behaves before investing more. Limits to be aware of: speed up to 2.5 m/s, a maximum slope of 30°, no 4G module and a Unitree warranty of 6 months instead of 12. There is no access to secondary development.

Go2 Pro: what it adds

The Go2 Pro costs from €3,981 excluding VAT and adds:

  • 4G module with GPS: connection to the robot even outside Wi-Fi coverage, useful for outdoor inspections.
  • ISS 2.0: a mode in which the robot follows the operator while staying to the side.
  • Wireless vector positioning module and voice functions.
  • 8-core CPU on board, speed up to 3.5 m/s, slope up to 40°, 12-month warranty.

What it does not add: secondary development. On the Pro you cannot install your own programs through the official SDK, nor integrate the robot into a ROS 2 stack. If in the future you want to connect it to a supervision system, a vision pipeline or reporting software, the Pro is not the right base.

Go2 EDU: for developers

The Go2 EDU starts from €8,804 excluding VAT and is the only one of the three with secondary development. On top of that it has a 15000 mAh battery (stated battery life 2-4 h), a fast charger, a depth camera, foot force sensors and the option to fit a high-performance computing module, for example an NVIDIA Orin with 40-100 TOPS.

On the software side, Unitree publishes unitree_sdk2 (C++) and the unitree_ros2 package, whose README states support for Go2, B2 and H1 and recommends Ubuntu 22.04 with ROS 2 Humble (Ubuntu 20.04 with Foxy also tested). Developer documentation is on support.unitree.com. For the first steps, see our quick ROS 2 guide for Unitree.

In the Abra price list the EDU comes in several configurations, which differ in sensors and additional computing:

ConfigurationWhat it addsPrice (excl. VAT)
Go2 EDU standardEDU basefrom €8,804
Go2 EDU SmartMore powerful computing module (details on the product page)from €12,473
Go2 EDU with Livox Mid-360 LiDARAdditional 3D LiDAR for mappingfrom €16,875

The exact contents of each configuration are on the relevant product page; always confirm the included equipment in the quote.

Pro or EDU for inspection?

For the Go2 family, Unitree describes 3D LiDAR mapping from the app and route setting. For an operator-led inspection with live video, the Pro can be enough. It is different when the collected data must end up in your own system: automatic readings, alarms, reports, integration with business software. There you need to access the robot's data from code, so the EDU.

There are also two physical limits that apply to all versions: no stated IP rating and 1-2 hours of battery life on the Air and Pro. For dusty and rainy environments the AS2 family states IP54 in the Pro, X and EDU versions, the A2 IP56 (A2 Pro from IP56 to IP67, with main components IP67) and the B2 IP67. The full comparison is in the article on the quadruped for industrial inspection.

What about the Go2-W?

The Go2-W is the variant with wheels on its legs. According to Unitree it weighs about 18 kg, reaches 2.5 m/s, carries about 8 kg (maximum about 12 kg), has a battery life of 1.5-3 hours and supports secondary development. It suits long, flat routes such as corridors and yards; on stairs and rough terrain the classic legs remain more versatile.

How to choose in four questions

  1. Do you need to write code or integrate the robot with other systems? Yes: Go2 EDU. No: go to question 2.
  2. Will you use it outside Wi-Fi coverage or do you want GPS? Yes: Go2 Pro. No: go to question 3.
  3. Do you need slopes over 30°, more speed or a 12-month Unitree warranty? Yes: Go2 Pro. No: Go2 Air.
  4. Does it work in the rain or in dusty environments? Consider the AS2, A2 or B2 instead of the Go2.

If you are unsure, the "Find the right robot" questionnaire is there for that. For all the versions and accessories (batteries, chargers, LiDAR kits, gas sensor), see the Unitree Go2 hub.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between the Go2 Air and the Go2 Pro?

The Go2 Pro adds a 4G module with GPS, voice functions, ISS 2.0 side following and an 8-core CPU, reaches 3.5 m/s instead of 2.5 m/s, climbs slopes up to 40° instead of 30° and has a 12-month Unitree warranty instead of 6. The body, 4D LiDAR and 8000 mAh battery are the same.

Can the Go2 Pro be programmed with SDK or ROS 2?

No. According to the official Unitree table, secondary development is available only on the Go2 EDU. To use unitree_sdk2 or unitree_ros2 you therefore need the EDU version.

How long does the Go2 battery last?

Unitree states about 1-2 hours for the Air and Pro, with an 8000 mAh battery, and about 2-4 hours for the EDU, with a 15000 mAh battery. Real battery life depends on load, terrain and speed.

Is the Go2 waterproof?

Unitree does not state an IP rating for the Go2. For dust and rain it is worth considering the AS2 (IP54 in the Pro, X and EDU versions), A2 (IP56) or B2 (IP67).

How much do the Go2 Air, Pro and EDU cost?

In the Abra Robotics price list, excluding VAT: Go2 Air from €2,178, Go2 Pro from €3,981, Go2 EDU from €8,804. Shipping and insurance are not included and are quoted in the offer; every order is confirmed with an updated quote.
