Unitree A2 Stellar Explorer: what it is, specs and price

In brief: Stellar Explorer is the name Unitree uses today for the A2 platform; at launch, on 5 August 2025, it called it Stellar Hunter. It is not a separate model: the official datasheet is that of the A2 family, with about 42 kg, about 25 kg of payload in motion, over 5 hours and about 20 km unloaded, and IP56 (IP67 on the main components of the Pro). In the UK the A2 family runs from €30,814.49 (A2 Standard) to €49,743.39 (A2-W Pro), excluding VAT.

The Unitree A2 Stellar Explorer is Unitree's industrial quadruped platform. Stellar Explorer is the name that appears on the official page; the model code that identifies the product is A2. The versions in the price list are A2 Standard, A2 Pro, A2-W Standard and A2-W Pro.

Unitree A2 Stellar Explorer: what it is and what it is not

The official Unitree page titles the product "Unitree A2" and adds "Stellar Explorer". The same page lists A2 and A2 Pro; the A2-W is the configuration with wheels at the ends of the legs. In the Abra Robotics price list there is no "Stellar Explorer" entry: the versions are A2 Standard, A2 Pro, A2-W Standard and A2-W Pro. The official datasheet has no section dedicated to an "Explorer" variant: dimensions, weights, sensors and runtime are those of the A2 family. If you are looking for the price, start from the model code.

Stellar Explorer or Stellar Hunter: does anything change?

The official Chinese page reads 星际猎影; at launch, on 5 August 2025, Unitree used the name Stellar Hunter in English, while the English page today uses Stellar Explorer. The label changes, not the hardware. In a quote, ask for the exact model code and configuration to be written down, because "Stellar Explorer" alone does not tell you whether you are looking at an A2, an A2 Pro, an A2-W or an A2-W Pro.

What are the official specs of the Unitree A2?

The data below comes from Unitree's official A2 and A2-W datasheets, consulted on 20 October 2026. Declared runtimes change with payload, terrain and configuration.

The computing setup is common to all versions: an 8-core CPU for platform functions, an Intel Core i7 for SDK programming, two 9,000 mAh batteries (453.6 Wh each, 907.2 Wh in total) with hot swap. Interfaces include RS485, CAN, Gigabit Ethernet and USB-C. Unitree declares OTA updates and support for custom software development (SDK).

What the numbers mean in practice

  • About 25 kg in motion is the declared continuous payload, not the maximum in every condition. The roughly 35 kg cited by Unitree applies "in ideal conditions": it has to be verified with the real centre of gravity and mounting.
  • The roughly 100 kg static does not mean 100 kg can be transported. The robot can hold that weight standing still, not walk with 100 kg on its back.
  • IP56 means protection limited to dust and resistance to powerful water jets, not to immersion. On the A2 Pro the main components are declared IP67.
  • Two hot-swap batteries let you replace one without switching the robot off. The procedure has to be tested and explained to the people working in the field.

How much does the Unitree A2 Stellar Explorer cost in the UK?

Stellar Explorer is not a separate price list entry. Version, sensors and accessories are what count. These are the end-user prices from the Abra Robotics public price list, excluding VAT. Shipping and insurance are quoted in the offer; import VAT and customs duty are handled as described on the UK page. The Unitree A2 page collects all the versions and accessories.

VersionPrice excl. VAT
A2 Standard€30,814.49
A2-W Standard€38,738.22
A2 Pro€42,406.61
A2-W Pro€49,743.39

The A2 family ranges from €30,814.49 to €49,743.39. The lowest figure is the A2 Standard, the highest the A2-W Pro. Every order is confirmed with an updated quote, because the final configuration may include accessories.

In the A2 price list, accessories are separate items: A2 battery at €1,467.36, G20 remote control with screen at €733.68, UWB Companion module at €1,173.88, 100 TOPS compute dock at €6,603.11. All prices exclude VAT.

A2 or A2-W: which is better?

The A2 walks: 12 degrees of freedom, about 42 kg, over 5 hours and about 20 km unloaded, steps up to 30 cm and slopes up to 45°. It is the choice for routes with stairs, gratings, uneven ground and industrial environments.

The A2-W has wheels at the ends of the legs and 16 degrees of freedom. It weighs about 52 kg, declares over 3.5 hours and about 35 km unloaded, up to about 6 m/s. On asphalt, yards and long corridors it is more efficient and faster; it keeps the ability to overcome steps and obstacles declared by Unitree. If the route is mixed, with long stretches and a few stairs, it is the configuration to consider. If steep stairs, mud or broken ground predominate, the A2 remains simpler.

In both cases the Pro adds the second LiDAR and IP67 protection for the main components. The Standard has one LiDAR and IP56; GPS, 4G and the tracking module are optional on the Standard, while the Pro includes them as standard.

What applications is the A2 suited to?

Unitree lists logistics, industrial inspection, and emergency and rescue.

Plant and substation inspection

An A2 comes with an HD camera and LiDAR as standard and up to about 25 kg of payload in motion. You need a map, a route and a plan for handling anomalies. For the comparison with the Go2, AS2 and B2, see the guide to the quadruped for industrial inspection.

If the route crosses classified zones, check for an explicit ATEX certification: none appears on the official A2 pages. Fitting a gas detector does not make the robot suitable for those zones.

General information, not legal advice. Use in classified zones requires a specific assessment of the equipment and installation.

Internal and external logistics

A payload of about 25 kg in continuous walking does not replace a forklift. The A2 carries tools, samples, spare parts or a small payload between two points. The A2-W is better suited to long routes on regular ground. If 15 kg and IP54 are enough, the AS2-X or AS2 Edu Standard cost less than the A2; for loads over 40 kg Unitree offers the B2, in a different price bracket. The comparison between sizes is on the Unitree quadrupeds page.

Emergency, rescue and development

Unitree also mentions emergency and rescue. The robot carries sensors or materials; it is not an autonomous rescue system. Before operational use, the route, procedures and handling of anomalies must be defined. For developers, the platform is open: an 8-core CPU, Intel Core i7, SDK and interfaces let you connect the robot to your own software or an additional compute module.

What to check before buying an A2?

  1. Model code and version: A2, A2 Pro, A2-W or A2-W Pro. The model code determines sensors, protection and price.
  2. Sensors: one LiDAR or two, HD camera and front light. The second LiDAR changes perception and price.
  3. Protection: IP56 or IP67 on the main components. It depends on dust, rain and washing on the route.
  4. Batteries: two 9,000 mAh (18,000 mAh in total); charger and charging board are separate items. Runtime with payload is lower than unloaded.
  5. Accessories: G20 remote control, UWB module, 100 TOPS compute dock. They are separate items from the robot.
  6. Environment: stairs, steps, slopes, water, dust, temperature and ATEX zones.
  7. Software: who writes the code, what data leaves the robot and how it integrates with your system.

Before ordering, it is worth measuring the actual route and load. To narrow the choice between the four versions, there is the Find the right robot questionnaire.
